Day
1: South Africa - Cederberg Mountain Region
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group depart Cape
Town heading north for the Cederberg Mountain region.
This area offers a variety of outdoor activities. On
this first afternoon the overland-ing group spend some
time learning about tour-life, the vehicle and equipment.

2: Highlight: Namaqualand - Gariep River
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group travel north
through Namaqualand and head for the Gariep River. The
night is spent around the campfire, getting to know
one another. (B,L,D)
It is quite a long drive
up to the Gariep River. There will be a short stop in
the town of Springbok or some shopping and possibly
banking (there is an ATM here).

3: Namibia - Gariep River / Fish River Canyon
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group choose between
a relaxing morning on the riverbank or the half-day
Canoe adventure. Alternatively, spend your time swimming,
watching birds and investigating the interesting geographical
features that are unique to the Richtersveld area. After
lunch the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group travel
north to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon
in the world. (B,L,D)

River Half Day Canoe Adventure
After lunch, the Cape
Town to Nairobi overland-ing group leave for Fish River
Canyon. the overland-ing group will reach Hobas before
dark to set up camp and be at the Canyon for sunset.
We say goodbye to tar roads for a while. The road between
the campsite and canyon is in a very bad condition -
the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group trucks are
therefore forced to go slow on this road.

4: Namib Naukluft-National Park
From the canyon The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group continue on into the remote Namibian hinterland.
We arrive at Sesriem Camp in the afternoon and have
time to go for a walk in to the smaller Sesriem Canyon.
This is an excellent night to sleep out under the stars,
beside the fire, surrounded by the shifting dunes and
desert silence. (B,L,D)
There is a shop for cool
drinks, beers, and postcards, wood and sometimes ice.
Shop closes at sunset. This is a long driving day so
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group will leave
as early as possible. the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group will stop at the garage in Bethanie to refuel,
shop, and get ice. This is a great little shop with
fresh bread and just about anything else you will need.
There is also a bottle store and post office.

5: Sossusvlei Dunes / Namib-Naukluft National Park
Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures we depart
at dawn and drive into the Namib-Naukluft National Park
where The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group will
hike up Dune 45 to gain a different perspective of the
desert. We leave the truck at the 2x4 parking area where
you have the option to go on a guided walk with a local
expert on the area, or hike into Sossusvlei with some
of the other the overland-ing group members.

overland-ing group will have a great big breakfast either
at Dune 45 or at the 2x4 parking area; the overland-ing
group will be starving when they get down and needing
something to drink. ( B,L,D)

Day
6 & 7: Swakopmund Hostel
A dramatic drive through the arid Namib Naukluft sees
us arrive at Walvis Bay where, if we are fortunate,
the resident flamingo flock can be seen. Then it's on
to the seaside resort town of Swakopmund. On the evening
of Day 6 you have the option of enjoying a dinner at
a local restaurant serving the catch of the day from
the local fishermen, or dining at the lodge, both at
your own expense. The next day is left totally open
for each person to pursue their own interests including

8: Spitzkoppe
The driverguide leave all the trappings of modern life
behind us and drive inland to the mysterious Spitzkoppe,
a sacred site of the San people. The Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group have the chance to climb the boulders
and rock formations and will camp in the wild for the
night. (B,L,D)

Guided hike with locals to view San rock art.

9: Himba Tribes
Heading inland again the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group drive north towards Kamanjab where the group will
see some of the local people of the area. The overland-ing
group will spend tonight at the Cheetah farm, and The
Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group will have the
option of going to see the cheetahs, and if we are lucky,
see a feeding! Tomorrow the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group will meet the Himba who are easily recognizable
by their unique style of dress. Encountering a totally
different way of life is a moving experience for many
people.

10 & 11: Etosha National Park Camp
An early rise sees us on our way to meet the local Himba
people. After spending some time with them ,the Cape
Town to Nairobi overland-ing group head off to Etosha
National Park and some of most unique game viewing experiences
in Africa. The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group
spend our days visiting the abundant water holes for
some excellent game photography. After supper the overland-ing
group relax at some of the finest floodlit waterholes
in the world. (B,L,D)

12 & 13: Rundu Camp
After an early morning game drive the Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group set off for Rundu on the Kavango
River. In the evening the overland-ing group can enjoy
a sunset cruise on the Kavango River, the border separating
Namibia and Angola. The next day the Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group visit the local Ovambo villages and
one of the schools in the area. There are a number of
different optional activities to take part in; alternatively
a relaxing day by the river is always popular. (B,L,D)

14, 15 & 16: Botswana - Okavango Delta
Another early day! the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group journey takes us from Rundu, through the Muhembo
border, towards Shakawe. If time allows we will go to
Mahango NP for a game drive, situated right at the border.
Those of us who decide to join the Delta Excursion will
leave the truck behind and enter the Delta using local
transport. the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group
guides will provide you with a briefing about the next
few days' activities, the environment and the community
run tourism operation. If you remain behind then you
spend the next few days relaxing at camp.

17: Namibia - Caprivi National Park
The Delta is left behind as the Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group pass through the Caprivi NP in Namibia,
camping under the stars on the banks of the Zambezi
River. (B,L,D)

18: Botswana - Chobe National Park
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group camp today
is on the banks of the Chobe River. The afternoon is
spent on an optional boat cruise into the renowned Chobe
NP, an excellent opportunity for viewing some of the
best of Africa's wildlife.

19: Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls Hostel
Arriving early at the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group final destination of Victoria Falls, the group
have lunch and enough time to visit the Falls. The popular
optional sunset cruise includes dinner and drinks.

20: Victoria Falls
Most tourist will spend the day White Water Rafting
a not-to-be-missed experience of a lifetime! The Victoria
Falls area offers many exciting activities. The evening
is normally spent together as a group at a local restaurant,
recounting our tour experiences and adventures so far.

21: Victoria Falls
Today is a free day on the overland-ing tour. Take the
time to relax, sleep in or catch up on your washing!

and truck will arrive on this day. The group will be
able to meet them, but keep in mind that they will be
busy preparing for the next leg of your tour.

22: Zambia - Victoria Falls
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group will leave
for Zambia at 8am to collect those joining us there.
The group spend the day enjoying the activities in Livingstone
or finalizing arrangements for our trip before returning
to base in the evening. (L,D)

23: Lusaka Camp
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group leave behind
the excitement of Vic Falls and head off on our expedition.
the group route towards the bustling Zambian capital
of Lusaka takes us along an interesting route. The Cape
Town to Nairobi overland-ing group enjoy the evening
relaxing after our long drive. (B,L,D)

24: Luangwa River
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group begin the
day with some shopping in Lusaka before heading northeast
towards the Luangwa River where we spend the night.
This is an interesting area full of friendly locals
and a walk along the river is a rewarding experience.

25 & 26: South Luangwa National Park
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group drive from
Luangwa River to the South Luangwa National Park where
we will spend two nights on the banks of the river.
Much of day 25 will be spent getting to South Luangwa.
If the overland-ing group get there early then an optional
excursion to the community textile factory is recommended.
Day 26 is put aside for activities, you can choose between
a morning or night game drive and a guided game walk
accompanied by a professional local guide.
If the South Luangwa
NP is not for you then relax by the pool or spend some
time with the local communities here. South Luangwa
is home to many unique animals that are not found elsewhere.
On occasion in the rainy season it is impossible or
inadvisable to attempt to reach South Luangwa NP, if
this happens then an alternative itinerary will be followed.
Normally groups decide to spend the additional nights
in Malawi or on Zanzibar. (B,L,D)

27: Malawi - Luwawa Forest
The overland-ing group leave South Luangwa NP early
and pass through the Zambia-Malawi border. Heading north
the group enter the highlands of Malawi and spend the
night at Luwawa Forest Lodge. There are some wonderful
hikes in the area as well as other activities. (B,L,D)

28 & 29: Central Lake Malawi
The group soon catch sight of the lake where the Cape
Town to Nairobi overland-ing group will spend the next
couple of carefree days. For the more adventurous there
are endless leisure and water sport activities. Alternatively,
soak up the atmosphere and relax in one of the most
scenic and memorable holiday destinations in Africa!
The evenings are spent beside its tranquil waters, enjoying
the party atmosphere of this famous spot.

Scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing, fishing, canoeing,
horse riding and many more…

30 & 31: Northern Malawi
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group continue
a short way further along the northern part of the lake,
close to the Livingstonia Mountains where the group
will continue our relaxation for the next two days.
Take a stroll through the nearby craft market and make
friends with the friendly people of Malawi or take a
hike into the mountains if the weather is favorable.

32: Tanzania - Iringa
Today the overland-ing group make the border crossing
out of Malawi. Leaving the lake behind us, the overland-ing
group head for our first night in Tanzania and gain
an hour as we cross into the East African time zone.
As the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group climb
out of the Great Rift Valley through some spectacular
mountain passes, the overland-ing group pass the vast
tea plantations in the highlands to the overland-ing
groups camp outside Iringa. (B,L,D)

33: Dar es Salaam
The Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing group route takes
us on a transit through Mikumi National Park to the
historical port city of Dar es Salaam. The overland-ing
group will go down a bad pass (tar uneven) and go through
an area called Baobab Valley, before reaching our destination.

34, 35 & 36: Zanzibar
A transfer by ferry takes us to Zanzibar where the overland-ing
group will spend the next few days exploring this fascinating
island with its renowned architecture, beautiful beaches
and colourful people and history. The excursion is at
your own expense and this can vary depending on your
preferred level of accommodation and activities. (34:

37: Zanzibar/Dar es Salaam
Today the overland-ing group reluctantly leave Zanzibar
and catch a late ferry (or flight) back to Dar es Salaam
and return to the Cape Town to Nairobi overland-ing
group campsite. The evening can be spent reminiscing
back at the campsite.
The Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group will return from Zanzibar in the
late afternoon and swap our stories around the bar.
Ensure that you bring all your possessions with you
when you leave Zanzibar. The group will leave early
tomorrow morning for Lushoto. (D)

38: Arusha
A long and scenic drive takes us to Arusha, the safari
capital of Tanzania. If there are clear skies en-route
the overland-ing group might see Mt Kilimanjaro. After
arriving in Arusha yhe group prepare to explore the
Serengeti National Park - one of the most abundant wildlife
reserves in the world. (B,L,D)

39 & 40: Serengeti/Ngorongoro
There are many options available, ranging from the one-day
trip to the Ngorongoro crater, to a three-day trip into
the Serengeti. As this is for your own expense, we give
you every opportunity to match the activity to your
budget.
For those not going to
the parks, take this opportunity to absorb some of the
fascinating local culture. One of the guides will remain
with those that decide to stay in Arusha.

41: Arusha Camp
Getting together again after the group various game
viewing activities in the game parks, the Cape Town
to Nairobi overland-ing group spend our last night in
this beautiful country swapping 'big game' stories around
the campfire. the overland-ing groups normally return
from the Serengeti excursion late in the afternoon.

42: Kenya - Nairobi
After crossing the border into Kenya with Kilimanjaro
receding into the distance, the Cape Town to Nairobi
overland-ing group continue on towards Nairobi and the
end of our journey. The last evening on tour is normally
spent out at a local restaurant celebrating the completion
of our Adventure! (B,L)
